VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION
VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR
Purpose:
To recruit, place, monitor and evaluate volunteers. Also to support and motivate volunteers.
TASKS
1. To promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns.
2. To recruit volunteers and ensure they are appropriately matched and trained for a position.
3. To celebrate volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards and organising celebration events.
4. To ensure there is appropriate support and training for volunteers.
5. To organise rotas and provide inductions and training.
6. To monitor, support, motivate and accredit volunteers and their work.
7. To keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteering, and make any necessary modifications to accommodate changes.
8. To attend any relevant meetings on behalf of the organisation.
9. To organise profile-raising events to attract new volunteers and to write articles for Annual report, newsletter and website
10. To visit projects at least once a month to consult with volunteers
11. To organise quarterly social events
12. To actively participate in the development of the organisation and undertake any other duties as and when required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
*Good organisational skills and effective team leader
*Good inter-personal and communication skills
*Excellent knowledge of computer packages such as Word, Excel etc
*Able to work on own initiative
*Supervisory experience essential
*Able to compose letters, write role descriptions etc.
*Understanding of the voluntary sector and in particular refugee community organisations
MANAGEMENT
The person filling the role will be supervised by the Development Manager and attend monthly supervision
AVAILABILITY
At least two/three days per week and for a minimum period of 6 months
Travel expenses will be reimbursed
A lunch allowance will be paid if working more than four hours
Training will also be arranged with Volunteer Centre Lewisham and other relevant local training providers
