It was so lovely to see you at our AFRIL summer party. We hope you had a lovely time in the beautiful setting of the AFRIL allotment of refuge at One tree Hill and had a chance to eat the amazing food prepared by our families. You may have had some conversations with Rose and our AFRIL allotment ambassadors about their plans for the land and how it contributes to the AFRIL food bank.
Invitation to join us, relax, enjoy nature, grow food together.
Come and find a sanctuary where you can relax, grow fruit and vegetables, and meet new friends. We care for people and the land. This is AFRIL’s Allotment of Refuge. In London, an allotment is land that is set aside for people to grow food and flowers. We call it an allotment of refuge because we want it to be a place where people who have migrated feel welcome and at peace.
“The other allotment users have become my family and having their support has helped me through the hardest times” current AFRIL volunteer.
You don’t need gardening knowledge to join in, although we also welcome experienced gardeners. There’s good physical work and careful tending to plants to do – and a cup of tea. We grow the food we like and the food we used to grow back home.
“Being close to nature, finding a place of peace – this was life-changing for me. It reminded me of home, but also gave me hope” current AFRIL volunteer.
